2010 Merida XC100 or Trek R2496?

Looking to buy my 1st mtb just something to play around with. I am a roadie so mtb will be used for fun with my daughter (7months old) while wife is running and may be a casual race or 2.

 

There is a

2010 Merida XC 100

for sale,Sale include 1x Merida helmet , cat eye speedo , 2x road tyres with

tubes , saddle bag ,2 water bottle cages

For R3000 but Solomons have a new Trek for R2495.

 

Should I go new or used?
