I'm going to give this event a go.MTB is my thing and I like doing Trail running aswell.Competed in both events. Swimming is where the problem lies. Most I ever swam was 400m in the Xterra lite and that was a tough swim for me.Just wandering how hard is it to Canoe 16Km.Maybe a better option?

Last time I "swam" was 2 lengths at LC at Tuks and that convinced me to rather stay on the bike! But 4 months (realistically less given my preference not to chisel through ice in the pool) to prepare for swimming 400m without being completely spent is a nice goal to aim for ....

What is the easiest way to buy a day license to be able to participate ? Can't see the link on the official TSA website either ...

Edit;

Registered me and wife, called them about license and apparently I can buy one on the day (if asked for one)

It depends on whether you have canoed before? I assume they won't provide you with a boat, and most likely it will need to be a K1 (not the plastic sit on top paddleski stuff you get at the adventure races) ?. (i don't know what the boating requirements are with this event)

Either way, 16km isn't exactly easy, but at least just like cycling you can coast and kinda manage your energy by simply going slower and floating along. However if you're going to be falling over alot then it'll be a bust.....

As for swimming, it's also my achilles heel, primarily because i find if difficult to train for open water events , and then there is a bit of a panic factor when you're surrounded by 800+ swimmers all kicking and swimming over each other . End result, i completely lose my swimming form and swim like an idiot ending up having to swim on my back to catch my breath from exhaustion.

How is the swimming coming along? After the trailseeker Marathon on Saturday I have 3 weeks to get the swimming sorted. Can do 300m in a 50m pool now so still plenty sessions required :-) Will be great fun though !!

Quick 2 questions: I've done the shorter tri routes before and thus did not worry too much about eating on the bike - for the Rockman that obviously doesn't apply - does anyone have some general rules or tips on this so that I don't have a crazy stitch when I start running?

Second question: when I hop off the bike after a longish session and start running, my hamstrings feel quite tight for about 3kms - anything I can do or is this just part of the fun?
