Stripped pedal thread SLX Crank Arm

For a two-week-old bike, there seems to be a lot of scratches on that crank right where the problem is...

 

Those are not scratches, what you see there is the screw threads disintegrating and coming out the pedal hole. I saw the final product yesterday and you can now push the pedal all the way in without it touching sides

New left side crank arm (if he's running a 170mm).

 

But after VAT etc, I'd consider a whole new set.

 

As for the scratches around the affected area... is this akin to when a drunk person tries to unlock their car door and in the sort of "pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey" game, scratches the heck outta the car door right around the keyhole?

Just an update. The bike shop replaced the crank arm this morning without any hassles.
