does anyone know where or how to test if gauge is working correctly on a floor pump? i am sure mine is way off, but not sure how to test ..

Are you using your floor pump for road bike or MTB, because of the difference in tyre pressure. Not sure if this will work, but might give you an indication (especially if for MTB tyre).

Check the pressure of your car's tyre with a reliable gauge and take a reading. Attach the floor pump's Schrader valve connection to your car's tyre and compare readings.

Alternatively, Sportsman's Warehouse is selling for the last few months cycling specific tyre pressure gauges (with all attachments for the different valves and readings for road and MTB).

thx BarHugger, i have done this test with my floor pump and also used a digital gauge ... long and short of it i have been running MTB at around 0.8 bar to low ... the pump is accurate on a road bike wheel... all very strange, but at least i know now what to work with

Because of this discrepency and sometimes unreliable readings from floor pumps, I have gone the vain route and acquired one of those 12V vehicle tyre pumps. None of this bobbing up and down, just plug in, attach, switch on and monitor the gauge - no effort. Nice thing also you can start all over and within a minute you can set the pressure precisely.

Looks a bit girly but I have had riders queing before a race for some juice in the tyre because of floor pumps not working properly.
