Intense 5.5

I know most guys not running FD's anymore, but ye had a quick look too see with an old deore shadow (think its a top pull) wasnt seeming to fit with much space on the rear triangle.

Should i be looking at a bottom pull or even a BB mount FD >?

Unless it does work and i just need to take abit of time to setup properly.

When I still had mine, I used to run it with a top-swing SLX. I don't particularly like top-swings, because they develop play quicker than "conventional" derailleurs, but it worked fine. Top-swings can usually accept a pull from either top/bottom, mine was running from the top as you can see in the pic.

 

A normal top-pull (ie bottom-swing) derailleur doesn't fit properly, so don't even try.

Doing a build out of spare parts,so didnt want to have to buy a FD as i'm trying to faze that out. Do like a big chainring on the streets though when its time to kikdown.

Might have to make the leap now and go 1x9

 

i do realize a real leap is 1x11

Yep, unfortunately that one won't work (I tried the exact same one )...

 

If you're willing to hang on for a couple of days, I'll have an SLX (like this one: http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/shimano-slx-m670-10spd-front-derailer) which you can have for R150 + postage? I'm busy converting to 1x10 on my Scale HT, so will have a few parts that have done about 500km up for grabs soon.

Just checked my 6.6. It's a top swing XT which I am runing as top pull. When it was on my Cannondale it was run as a bottom pull.

 

Maybe speak to Cg_s . I saw a KTM he's building that has a top swing, and he in fact needs a bottom swing becaus ethe frame is carbon and the seat tube is too thick near the BB to mount a top swing low enough.

 

You two may be able to work a deal.
