Look closely at the map above and you’ll see one day’s stage finish is not far from the next day’s stage start. Similarly the stages are shorter, gone are the 240km Alpine raids of the final week with more vertical gain than Everest, instead a typical mountain stage is “just” 170km. Human yes, but probably more energetic too with faster finishes.
