Interest for a GPS Workshop (Specifically focused on MTB'ing)?

Hi All,

 

If anyone did Dusi2C last year, you may remember me :-)

 

I would like to know if there is any interest for a GPS workshop, specially focused on MTB'ing and the races that are becoming popular.

 

I have had a few people asking me if I would be able to help them with their GPS's, especially Garmins. Therefore I would like to feel the waters to see if there is a need for this generally, or should I just keep it for the few that have asked for assistance.

 

The workshop would be 2-3 hours on a Saturday morning, probably 1st March in the Johannesburg area.

 

There will be no cost, however donations to my favourite charity would be appreciated.

 

Agenda will be something along the lines of:

• General GPS stuff
  
  • GPSr overview (how they work)
    
  • What to look for in a GPS for MTB’ing
    
  • The different types of GPS’s available
    
  • How to record good quality tracks, and create routes out of them
    
  • Riding with a GPS … it is not an expensive bike computer
    
  • Routing using a GPS
    
  • etc
    

• Garmin Specific
  
  • Settings required, and settings recommended through experience
    
  • How to record good quality tracks, and create routes out of them
    
  • Creating waypoints
    
  • Using Garmin BaseCamp to manage/create your tracks, routes, maps, etc
    
  • Creating routes using Google Earth and other tools
    
  • Other software that you can use with your Garmin
    
  • How to manage your Garmin GPS without using software such as Basecamp
    
  • Maps
    
    • Types
      
    • How to load maps
      
    • How to use maps

Is there a requirement for GPS devices other than Garmin?
