  1. Quick update on this build - my brother lives in Melbourne and recently he showed a pic of this build to one of his riding mates - the SS scene is huge in Melbourne and across the way in Tasmania and they have some seriously awesome bikes available to them. Anyway; shortly afterwards I get an email asking if I want to sell it Long story short it's on its way to Melbourne shortly! Tractor's build quite unintentionally goes international
  2. I applied the paint stripper and waited a couple of minutes before scraping the loose paint off with a plastic scraper and then hosing off all the gunk, repeated a couple of times and that was that. It takes about a full morning per frame. Just remember to wear gloves.
  3. Skollie I bought the fork a while back, was going to use it for another project but decided to run a suspension fork on that instead so I used it on this build. The fork has disk brake tabs on it so it's just a matter of bolting on the caliper.
  4. I used Fix It "Double Strength" paint stripper on both the frames - I just bought it from the local Builders Warehouse.
  5. Thanks Soapbox - unfortunately I've now run out of old 26er frames
  6. Candy apple green Got to love it man
  7. Obviously strip the paint and then polish, polish, polish - long hours and very dirty work. There's a thread on the entire build somewhere on the forum
  8. After getting the fork back it was time for a checklist to see what I still needed to complete the build - amazingly the only new thing I ended up buying was a set of ESI foam grips. It didn't take long to get everything assembled and before long I was out cruising on the "new" build. Just shows you that you don't have to break the bank to do something different and still end up with a bike that's unique and fun to ride.
  9. Step 1 : Strip the paint from the frame (again BUT this time I wasn't planning to polish it, I wanted a raw aluminium frame). At the same time the fork was sent off to Annette at Cycle Delic to be sprayed Candy Apple Green.
  10. It's been a while since I posted the last build thread so here's another one that I did recently. The name of the game was "recycle" and "budget" - I literally wanted to complete the build out of what I had lying around without buying anything new. I had another RM5 frame so that was chosen along with a Fire Eye rigid fork which I had already stripped of it's paint a while back so that was going to be used as well.
  11. It's a small world we live in - obviously way too small for the dumbass now sitting behind bars. Well done to DirtRyder for posting and Max it's awesome that you've got your ride back, oh, and to the SAPS guys - you've restored some faith in your abilities, well done
  12. Perhaps a local entrepreneur / hawker using the wire to display their wares?
  13. Depends on the bike and parts but generally you will get more selling off the individual parts - as Jigghead says a bit more admin
  14. Unfortunately theft of Hilux's and Fortuner's is just too common - amongst my mates I can count 3 double cabs and 2 Fortuner's in the space of the last 2 years, all in Gauteng. Most of them have now shifted over to other brands (or in one case to a Land Cruiser double cab) purely because of this.
  15. I like the STR, no, make that I like the STR a lot BUT why fit cable guides for shifter cables to a so-called SS frame? Perhaps make it an option? For those of us looking for a SS only frame it's really not necessary. Any chance Momsen can let you have a frame without any of the guides?
  16. I did a Breedts Nek ride a while back and had exactly the same thing happen. I'm riding along enjoying the quiet when suddenly there's this heavy bass getting louder and louder, I thought it must be a taxi parked somewhere along the road but then 3 guys come into view riding towards me and one of them also has his "sound system" in his Camel Bak. Pretty impressive sounds from something so small but I'm seriously glad I was cycling in the opposite direction and not behind them all the way with their music going
  17. D&H; man those were the days! RIP Basil, condolences to family and friends
  18. Freaking crazy - 2 guys with a gun & a knife and then still to hit the cyclist with a brick!! Really hope the rider is okay
  19. A set of SLX M675 (front and rear) will currently set you back R2150-00 at CWC
  20. Well done Nick! Hopefully the NPO registration will open a few corporate doors
  21. Hope the cyclist is OK and heals up soon. To the dumbass who knocked him down - I really hope you get caught you, you $$$$$$g $$$s!!
  22. There's a couple of ad's that appear / disappear / re-appear. If you want to sell something quickly just describe it properly & honestly (ie if it's used say so, don't spin a story about it being new) and ask a realistic price!
