Repair / Replace barrel adjuster on downtube

Does anyone know someone who can repair or replace the barrel adjusters on the downtube of the frame in the picture. The actual adjusters are rusted solid and I have managed to dislodge one from the frame. So in essence they really need replacing.

Your LBS should be able to sell you an adjuster. If the thread in the frame is stripped, you will need to have it repaired. Maybe the LBS can tap, and insert in a heli-coil if there is enough space? It's an M6 thread if I'm not mistaken.

Well its seem there is not a single LBS that stocks any frame components at all. These have to be ordered fro ceeway or Nova. The other problem is that their payment gateways dont accept SA credit cards. So being forced in this direction I repaired the barrel adjusters.

1. Popped both adjuster brackets off the frame using a pair of pliers and a bit of strength. The brackets have tiny screws which screw into the frame and are glued in place (no weldiing or brazing)

2. I used a 4.2 mm steel drill bit and drilled out the rusted screws.

3. I bought a 5mm tap and wrench and tapped out a new thread.

4. I bought 2 new barrel adjuster screws and springs

5. I glued the repaired brackets back to the frame and bob's your uncle.

Total costs R220 and about 2hrs worth of time including driving around. I still cant actually believe their are no frame manufacturers in SA and that no one stocks frame components. Even worse the overseas suppliers dont accept SA credit cards.

Now for some more fun. I'm gonna have the frame resprayed.

Where did you get the barrel adjusters in the end?
