And if so what do you think of it - does it make any difference or is it just a weird fad?

I have to buy my wife a new Camelbak, So I could give her mine and gte a nice new Lumbar one - but I am not so sure about it.

Two years back I damaged my shoulder in a tumble.

It became uncomfortable and painful to ride with the standard camelback.

So got one of these (1.5l Tahoe Camelback) at my LBS.

Works well for me.

No more weight hanging on my shoulders and sweaty back.

There are separate pull straps to tighten fit as you empty the reservoir and stop the pack from bouncing around.

There is a zipped pocket on either side to store keys, phone, multi tool, energy bars etc.

I also recently also bought (from First Accent) same sort of pack but with the standard 750ml squeeze bottle on either side and a zipped pocket in the center. This pack feels better on the waist than the camelback.

Only thing is you can not carry anything in your jersey pockets.
