RockShox Sektor fork Spez stumpy (2010)?

Hi Guys,

I've got an old Specialised stumpjumer fsr 2010 model (straight steerer, sigh) which has the stock fox float talas 140 fork. The fork is fine climbing, but I find it flexy and hard on quick descents. Was looking for a cheap, but stiffer replacement.

There's a good deal atm on CRC for a RockShox Sektor Coil fork with travel adjust 120 to 150mm. Read some decent reviews. I've never ridden a coil fork before. Do you think this a good idea? Do you think it would be an improvement on my current fork? I am very much the weekend warrior, am pretty unfit and don't race :)

Get your fox assessed for fitness for a refurbishment. In my opinion it is a better fork than the RS sektor. The RS is a low end fork with steel upper legs vs the Talas with alloy upper legs, and so on.

I won't bore you with technical details but as a comparison there should be at least a 800g weight difference against the RS

Another thing to remember is the unforseen costs associated to this type of swop, eg: will the steerer tube of the new fork fit my frame and also will my wheel fit as is?

If my memory of the bike you ride serves me, you have a tapered steerer and a QR front wheel. This means yes the fork will fit your frame, but sadly not the wheel. It is possible to change the front hub to suit the fork but then you need to decide if it's worth spending the extra money vs having the old fork serviced properly.

As an aside I once converted a Fox Talas to Float internals and removed the height adjustment mechanism. The difference was amazing and still had 140mm travel.

I have the same bike and just had to replace my fork. I went with the revelation 140mm in straight steerer and thru axle (had to convert my front hub) and I couldn't be happier. The fox on mine gave endless trouble and had developed so much play the damper cartridge was constantly being worked loose.

The Sektor is heavier, but the fork is really good. I love mine, really plush and has a good damper.

The sektor is cheaper, but check local prices, and add on the vat and postage, may be better to get one locally.

Thanks for the advice guys. Woah, three different opinions :)

I think I'm gonna start by having the fox assessed by the suspension gurus. If they can't make it any better, I'll probably look at replacing it with one of the RockShox recommended. I'll definitely try local first provided the price is not too much more than the international online guys.
