  1. Unfortunately the Camber was sold out in my dad's size, so went with the SIDO 3 - I've taken it for a quick spin - fantastic bike...and great spec for the price - rocshox air suspension, deore shifting all for just over 20K! Dad is stoked
  2. Some advice pls from the experts: I wanna buy my 70 y/o father his first MTB. Given his age I want a comfortable full suspension bike. Something for gentle trails offroad. It seems the entry level bikes are in the early 20-25 grand range. I don't really want to spend more. So far I have found the outgoing (2016) Camber 29 and Silverback SIDO 3. I see there is also the Giant Stance 2. I think he'd be happy with any of those, but if anyone has ridden all or any of them, advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
  3. Agreed - the 2016 looks awesome. I think the comp is good value. Cool. I'll check it out. What's the best price one can get these for now?
  4. Agreed - super bike, but fork is noodle - a stiffer replacement will be at least R7k. Drive train is gonna need replacing soon too - another R5k+... and I want a dropper - R3-5k. Do you reckon I should rather just keep the old dog going and drip replace all those parts? Or splash out on a new bike (with new geometry, fork, parts, hopefully dropper) in the next year or two?
  5. This is hypothetical for now - I've got a 2010 Stumpie FSR, which will need replacing in the next year or so - In my head i've got a budget of around 30k - gulp.
  6. What do you guys think the best value new trail bike in SA is? I'm thinking relatively descent parts spec, with new school geometry at a decent price. Tricky one. BTW doesn't everyone find it hugely frustrating that many LBS websites do not post prices of bikes???! So difficult to compare as one has to go to many stores to find out the prices of their bikes, and since the stores only offer certain brands, you end up having to go to multiple stores to find the best prices/bikes. What a LUS!
  7. I need to get some new clipless pedals for my trail bike. I started on the basic shimano spds (M520) which broke and I replaced them with some saint flats for commuting. Now I'm doing a little more riding with mates on weekends - often involving longer jeep-tracks/not very techinical stuff and want to go back to clipless for the long rides. I was just wondering if there is a big difference between caged and non-caged spds pedals eg. M520 vs m530 on the trail. in my mind, if one has a fairly rigid shoe, the only contact point will still be just the middle bit of the pedal.? What are your experiences. I would always want a greater grip/contact point, but do the cages actually provide that?
  8. I've got an old (2010) fox 32 Talas. Pisses me off how noodley it is on the downs. Climbs fine for my skill or lack thereof. Is this revelation gonna be as bendy than my fox despite similar width stanchions? Is it simply a much better damper package, or is it much stiffer too?
  9. Thanks for the advice guys. Will definitely try Epic Bike shop for the wheel build. Ciao
  10. Also, any recommendations for people to build up the wheel? I live in the Cape Town's southern suburbs.
  11. Ahoy all, I've been told I need new rims on my 2010 Stumpjumper (fsr - 26in) as the current ones spokes have corroded onto the rim and I can no longer true them. I want something wide-ish so that I can run 2.3-2.4 tyres and not too pricey! Any ideas/suggestions? - was looking at the WTB st i25 available on chain reaction- around R550 per rim, before shipping. Thanks J
  12. Thanks for the advice guys. Woah, three different opinions I think I'm gonna start by having the fox assessed by the suspension gurus. If they can't make it any better, I'll probably look at replacing it with one of the RockShox recommended. I'll definitely try local first provided the price is not too much more than the international online guys.
  13. Hi Guys, I've got an old Specialised stumpjumer fsr 2010 model (straight steerer, sigh) which has the stock fox float talas 140 fork. The fork is fine climbing, but I find it flexy and hard on quick descents. Was looking for a cheap, but stiffer replacement. There's a good deal atm on CRC for a RockShox Sektor Coil fork with travel adjust 120 to 150mm. Read some decent reviews. I've never ridden a coil fork before. Do you think this a good idea? Do you think it would be an improvement on my current fork? I am very much the weekend warrior, am pretty unfit and don't race
