The gap to the break is down to 3:30 with 63 km to go.

For spectators, this race only really lights up around 30 km to go with the Cipressa. I'll take a break until we get there.

Ok the pace has definitely ramped up now. The race is starting to ignite as they go over the 3 small capos before the Cipressa.

48km to go and the gap is down to 2:10.

The teams driving the front now are Etixx-Quickstep and Sky.

Over the climb and we see a few Lotto Soudal men move up for Greipel.

Pauwels is bossing the lead break at the moment, meaning his MTN teammates in the bunch don't have to do any of the pace setting duties.

Crash!

And 3 Sky riders have now broken away off the front by themselves.

The cause of the crash was the 4th Sky rider crashed on a corner and took out the riders behind him.

Just 3 from the original breakaway still out front, but now individuals doing their own thing. Bono (Lampre) out on his own.

The others from the break have joined the 3 Sky boys, about 10 second ahead of the main bunch.

1 km to the Cipressa...

They're all climbing and the pace is high. The bunch is coming up to the Sky triplets.

First small attack, Geraint Thomas and Swift hook onto it as it comes past.

Now Stybar launches across and GVA goes with him. This is a strong group!

French champ Arnaud Demare crashes on the climb. No chance of getting back, race over.

Meanwhile, the group is all together again, strung out on 1 very long line. They're about to summit. All the big names are there.
