DT Swiss Synchros 29'ers

So good folk,

I am looking at getting a decent set of rims, and wondered how a set of DT Swiss Synchros XR2.5 would perform compared to my standard wheels on the Spez Rockhopper Expert 15 I recently got?

What would be a good price to expect to pay used for these rims with DT Swiss hubs (not sure which model hub) but no cassette or discs?

Hey there Old Mountain Goat. I believe the XR2.5 rims probably come from a Scott Spark and that they are actually Alex rims branded as Syncros. They are fairly decent, but it depends what kind of riding you're going to do. I would certainly not call them bomb proof. I had a pair on my Scott and I recall being very impressed with how much abuse they could take (bearing in mind that I eventually folded my front wheel around a tree in a crash). I replaced my pair with a set of American classic All Mountains, but the rear wheel still ran pretty true after about a year of trail riding.

I'm not too familiar with the Rockhopper's wheels, but considering the rest of the component choice on the Rockhopper I would bet the XR2.5s are a decent upgrade. Just make sure the wheels are compatibale with your frame and fork. My XR2.5s were QR rear and 15mm TA front. It might be tricky trying to source converter kits for the XR2.5s seen as they are OEM parts.

How much you ask? Maybe about R2500 is a reasonable offer for a set of XR2.5s in good condition. but I would prefer paying a bit less than that.

Maybe another option for you is to purchase a set of rims at a bike shop that build wheels well and have them laced to your current hubs? That way you wont have compatibility issues and you'll end up with a stronger and lighter rim. Might cost around the same.

Good luck

Thanks for the info. If your pricing of R2500 is accurate, then it looks like I got a decent deal on them, but I guess it'll depend on the TA conversion kit etc at the end of the day, if that can even be done?

I got the wheels and gace them a good clean up last night. There was afair bit of dried sealant 'spits' all round the rims, and many 'scratches' that actually cleaned off, so other than a couple of fairly heavy surface scratches in one or two places, they are actually looking nice and clean! They are also true! No sign of even any slight buckling, so looks good. At least I know I can get my money back on them should I need to sell them. :)

Thanks again. Anyone else anything further to add?
