Trek Fuel EX 8 2015 or Specialized Camber (Alu) Comp 2016

Yes, another one of these threads.

My stolen bike is/was a Giant Anthem X 29, but I am looking for a bit more travel (about 120mm F&R).

I am no XC racing whippet, and actually ride more road than MTB. W2W & Joberg2C are events that I might ride, but otherwise its Table Mountain or Tokai for me.

The two bikes listed above are top of the pile at the moment.

Both are 29'ers with 120mm travel, so those boxes are ticked.

They are both alu frames, so that's equal.

The Spez is 2016, so it up to date with modern standards

The Trek is 2015, but not outdated (except for Boost)

Neither has a dropper seatpost -  that will come in a few months

I will probably upgrade the drivetrain (1x11) and brakes on the Spez. There probably isn't budget for that on the Trek.

The Spez has nice wide rims & chunky tyres. The Trek, not as much.

What else to consider?

The Spez is about R33k and the Trek about R30k.

I am waiting to see what insurance will pay out. Hopefully close to R35k.

And that will influence my decision in the end.

Edits:

Prices updated

Trek colour changed

links to specs added

If you happened to be in the Stellenbosch area BMT has a well speced Trek Fuel with a droper seat post for a good price will be well worth checking it out. Maybe good to even take it for a ride to get a feel of the bike and suspension.Speak to Chris or Dewald at BMT .
