Hi guys

I had an unfortunate incident take place 2 weeks back. Came off my bike and went to hospital at the scene. A mate of mine arranged my bike to be taken back to my place. He took my front wheel off and in the process, took my thru axle apart piece by piece. The fork is a epicon and the thru axle is the q-loc system which is super easy to use if you know how.

The problem is that it won't fit though the frame and wheel - as in the red pice won't flare up outside the groove. The only thing I can think of is that there is a piece missing. I have searched online and have had no luck. I know it's not the most popular fork around but maybe someone can assist? I took two springs from an old skewer and wedged them in and then it seems to work but don't like putting parts in where they don't belong.

Below are pictures of the thru axle with its parts. Would really appreciate someone telling me what I have missing?! If anything - I have tried assembling it in all ways imaginable with no luck.

Cheers

I have the same axle, in fact juts had one replace under warranty.

I don't understand when you say it wont go fir through the frame and wheel?

whether the collet is open or closed it can be pushed though the axle.

Are you reffering to it not opening up on the otherside for it to close securely?

Yes that's what I am saying. Without the springs I put in, it goes through and flares up when locked. Without the springs, the red piece doesn't make it all the way through, so you can lock it, but then it's flared up inside the fork is tear of outside... If that makes sense

technically when re-fitting the axle the end should be open and then you juts force it though and when all the way through you juts close the lever,

I used to always close the end and when all the way through, turnm the end a few degrees for it to open up and then close the lever.

here's an exploded diagram of the axle.

I've got one of these (150mm travel) and made the mistake of over tightening and broke the little gold ring right at the front of the assembly and maybe something else. Bottom line I couldn't get the wheel off as the flange didn't properly close. Had the LBS strip for me but couldn't get it to work properly.

In the end I bought a new one at around R600 which is expensive but given that the fork is actually decent, I replaced it.

I've now stripped the bike it was on so fork and shiny new million dollar thru axle is sitting in a box in the cupboard - waiting for another build ....

Nothing useful I know but you're not alone :)
