Just as long as you don't transfer your bad luck onto her ride then, it'll be perfectly ok!

Oh no, everybody around me has exceptionally good luck, because if something bad is going to happen, the likelihood of it happening to me is pretty high. :P

Awesome read.  For those of us that have been doing this 'forever', it's great to be reminded of the simple things that make riding a bike so much fun.    (Remember these posts in a year or so when you are a pro, read them again and be reminded that it's about the small things.)

There are a bunch of PE guys and gals on BikeHub.  Drop a post in 'grouprides'.  I'm sure there will be a few folk willing to join you and show you a few routes - road or mtb.

And if you don't come right, I know a few folk that don't frequent BikeHub but would be more than willing to show you the ropes.  Let me know and I'll forward direct contact details.

Thanks Dubber! I'll definitely pop something in the group rides; super keen to meet some new people and share a few rides! :D

That indeed you must do. Just another reason for you to visit Cape Town and surrounds.

I am sure she will be very flattered and yes you better save those pictures for when you need them. More especially when you need to coerce Lurch into parting with his 94.7 entry. Luckily I don't do races, just rides.

I think there are a few Cape Town trips on the radar this year anyway, so I guess I'll just have to add some rides in ;)

Haha high res photos being stored - I want to do 94.7 this year! :D :D

Lurch, your luck may change if we meet - I have exceptionally bad luck! You know that kid that isn't allowed to go to your camping adventure birthday party unless they're wrapped in bubble wrap? That kid is me  :nuke:

I have my entry all lined up for sale :P

You want to compare bad luck..? Let's bring out the broken bone list... ;)

My offer from your previous thread definitely stands. Do you have an approximate date for your first trip down?

As for renting bikes to ride on there are three companies I can think of top of my head: I Ride Africa (run by fellow hubber iRide), Olympic Cycles and Bikes & Wines (who also do epically cool t-shirts and surprisingly good coffee). Any of which should be able to accommodate you!

I would definitely recommend a Peninsula ride as it has super incredible views especially up Smitswinkel and going through Gifkommetjie (the fynbos belt around Cape Point), Scarborough and Misty Cliffs. And if you're planning to do Table Mountain, I would suggest hiking up. Again spectacular scenery especially of the City Bowl & Northern Suburbs.

Haha ok not that many broken bones, although one major spinal injury that I reckon makes up for numerous broken bones! :P

Thanks Mntboy - at this stage there's no plans yet, but will def pop you a message when there are any!

Are those suggested rides road or mtb routes? Always wanted to hike up Table Mountain (mostly because I'm terrified of heights and the whole cable car thing just doesn't work very well for me!), so keen to try get that in on one of the trips as well :D

I guess you at least know for a fact that you are not spineless ;) :P

Forget being terrified of heights, you can just be terrified of the price of the cableway...for that sort of money I would expect to own the deed to the damn mountain ;)

Peninsula route is a road ride. Forms part of the CTCT (Cape Town Cycle Tour). And yes hiking Table Mountain is worth the effort as you panoramic views of much of the surrounding suburbs/areas. A visit of the Company Gardens and it's associated museums is something else you should put on list of things to do. The Art museum and the Holocaust museum in particular is pretty amazing places to visit. Might go there this arvie, if I do I will take some pictures and share here if all god with you?

Hahaha yeah I guess I proved that!

What does it cost these days; I haven't been to CT in years. Although even the little one in Haarties is ridiculously expensive, so I can only imagine what Table Mountain is like!

Last time I checked, which admittedly was 5 years ago, it was like two hundred bucks for a ticket compared to zilch when hiking. Super easy choice to make, although it does help that I actually like hiking.

Hiking is the shizness - you can't trust anyone who doesn't enjoy hiking [emoji39]

Pretty steep... Guess I'll be packing my hiking boots [emoji23]

Indeed it is. One gets to see some cool sights while doing so. And I like to think that anyone who isn't willing to explore a place is mad. Half the cool places I've found has been because it either looked interesting or I was curious to know what was there.

Went ahead and had a lovely little trip to the Company Gardens and a couple of the museums in the area. Here's a few photos:
