Thing is, your brain can process the speed (Relative to a known point - i.e. speedlimt) you are doing much quicker on an analogue display compared to having to "read" right to left a numeric number, one of the main reasons most cars still have this, even if its electronic.

 

So on a dial gauge you can quickly see if you are doing say 10% either way of a desired speed without actually having to know what the exact speed is.

 

Even in A380 aircraft there is some form of analogue representation for speeds, altitude, attitude etc as well as the digital value for more precise requirements.
