Riding in the Valley of 1000 Hills is usually restricted by being inaccessible and inhospitable for riders without adequate logistical support. With an experienced crew and suitable support vehicle Detour Trails Day Adventures makes the unusual & spectacular Valley trails accessible.

 

6th August - OM DIE DAM – Round Nagle Dam – approx 45km

 

This ride is not long, but will take a long time, so is best taken on by the explorer type mountain biker who doesn’t mind the occasional walk or river swim. Parts of the riding is on trails which are seldom if ever ridden by mountain bikers (apart from us) as we ride natural trails used by locals to access some remote kraals and villages. Crossing the Umgeni River above Nagle Dam is always a talking point after the ride as the crossing depends a lot on how much water is being let into the dam from upstream. In keeping with the explorer mode, we try to add a new element to each ride by checking out a previously unridden section or two.
