Steel Monster Road Bike

So I've been toying with the idea of building an old steel frame bike with all the luxuries of modern bikes that I've grown accustom to.

So over the last year or two as I've been upgrading my bike, I've been left with a lot of leftover parts.

It has now gotten to a point where all I needed was a frame.

I managed to get my hands on a Reynolds 531 tubed frame, complete with a Ritchey Logic headset.

The frame was a bit worse for wear, so it was powder- coated black.

I've built it up with a Sram Force 10 Speed groupset, Ritchey WCS cockpit, KCNC seatpost and Selle San Marco Concore saddle.

I have an extra set of carbon 50mm tubbies that I might use for some rides, but in the interest of building a simple, everyday, robust bike, I just fitted my training wheels off my carbon bike.

I've taken this bike on some long rides and some gravel roads. It's a very fun bike!

Here she is!

Been wanting to do the same thing...you just re-ignited the desire to

Friend of a friend inspired this build. He had recently purchased a Lynskey titanium frame and built it up with Campy Super Record. I figure an old steel frame would be even cooler!

Very Very nice.

It is exactly what I want to do now.

I have a Campy Chorus group set from  my previous aluminium road bike.

Want to put that on an  older steel frame.

Here is a nice 229 page thread on exactly this for inspiration.

Awesome thread!

As cool as all those old parts look and all the collectors value and what not, I still prefer the feel and performance of modern parts. The old frames are amazing, but the new parts make it easy to ride.
