Road/Tri Bike Advise

Hi all,

About a year ago I searched for answers on my first bike on these forums with excellent results, ended up with a Trek Xcaliber 7 29er perfectly within my budget and is still serving my newbie needs very well.

I have not done tubeless conversion on it, reason being with it serving all my needs... on the mountain trails, the road, the occasional short triathlon and hours on the indoor trainer, I find myself spending far more time than I would like changing between the road, offroad and indoor (back) training tire more and more frequently.

I have queried the local cycling store for approx pricing on getting a second set of wheels to make this a little less effort each time, even perhaps just a separate back wheel dedicated to the indoor trainer tire as I find that one the most tricky to get on and off and I was quite surprised in the cost of doing this (up to R3,000 for the wheels, cassette and whatever else).

I have seen a number of very well priced tri/road bikes on the classifieds which would cost me around the same as this, one that particularly caught my eye was: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/199491-infinity-tri-pro-54cm-for-sale/

As most of my cycling currently is either on the indoor trainer or offoad, would the money be better spent on getting a second bike now for this money, which would be mostly dedicated to the indoor trainer and a back tire switch for the odd venture out on the road, with the xcaliber always ready to go.

I am very happy with the road performance of the xcaliber, and built far more like a prop than a tour de france racer so weight of the bike is not a huge factor to me, the xcaliber has proven very reliable as well. I am also not really sure as to what makes a great or not so great road bike, etc.

Any comments or advise would be greatly apriciated... :)
