Cav' Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 The Tour of Andalucia was created in 1925 by the then Secretary of the Union Velocipédica Spanish, Seville Miguel Arteman. After its first edition, it would not be disputed until thirty years later when, in 1955, the Cyclist Malagueña organized the second edition.From 1956 until 1973 the brothers Antonio and José Gómez Téllez, presided over by Emilio Ramos, organized the Vuelta a Andalucía. Although, Emilio Ramos in 1973 contacted Luis Cuevas, organizer of cycling tests, to give oxygen to the first test of Andalusia. From 1974 to 1977 Emilio Ramos and Luis Cuevas worked together for the good of Andalusian cycling. It is possible to emphasize in those four editions the passage to Ceuta, whose stages made history with a pleasant memory. In 1978 Andalusia did not have elite cycling. It was then that Luís Cuevas, alone, created a new competition called "Ruta Ciclista del Sol", which covered in some part the Andalusian territory to follow the communities of Murcia and Valencia. The Ruta del Sol was shining brighter and in 1986, commemorating the first anniversary of the "opening of the gate", the Ruta del Sol entered Gibraltar on 5 February. It was there when the Andalusian government awarded Luis Cuevas asking him to organize the first test of Andalusia, giving it the name of Vuelta a Andalucía "Ruta Ciclista del Sol". From the beginning of the Vuelta a Andalucía, the company Deporte Internacional, SA DEPORINTER collaborates very closely in its organization, until in 1986 the Spanish Federation of Cycling and the highest political stay of the Junta de Andalucía decide to entrust the integral organization of the Test DEPORINTER, by the hand of Luis Cuevas. We work hard to improve the Tour of Andalusia year after year, and finally the result does not wait. The International Cyclist Union (UCI) awards you the highest score of all the international professional cycling events registered in 2000 and 2001. With 99.5 points out of 100, the result obtained exceeds the score received for other tests of great relevance and prestige, such as Is Tour de France, Tour of Italy, Tour of Spain and the World Championships. Since the creation of the UCI Continental Circuits in 2005, the Vuelta a Andalucía belongs to the UCI Europe Tour, within category 2.1. This is the first round that opens the national cycle calendar annually in February, so it is highly anticipated throughout the sector. Cav' Posted February 15, 2017 Author Posted February 15, 2017 Favorites: Alejandro Valverde – won in Murcia after a very long solo ride. It’s clear to see that Bala is showing no signs of slowing down! He is the King of this race and will look to attack on this stage and take a crucial lead in the GC. He can go on the climb, the descent, or sprint for stage success. The Spaniard has all the bases covered! Wout Poels – his best chance of winning this stage is to go solo on the descent. He certainly arrives with a very strong team to help support him, he’ll need a few of them to shut down any Valverde move. Thibaut Pinot – this stage looks good for the Frenchman. His season started well, but illness ruined any chance in Valenciana. He’s had some time to recover from that and he should be fighting for the stage. Alberto Contador – Alberto knows all about the qualities of Valverde. If he is to win this stage, he needs to drop his countryman on the climb. That should create a very exciting stage. It’s his first race for his new team, Trek-Segafredo, and I can’t wait to see what he’s got! Ion Izagirre – can climb, descend, TT and sprint. He really has the lot! Now riding for Bahrain, it will be good to see him matching up against his old Movistar colleagues. He knows that given his strong TT, he simply needs to follow wheels and not lose time. A lack of teammates will make the the last 30km difficult for him. Dani Navarro – The Cofidis man is a consistent top 10 finisher in Andalucia and he’ll be trying to take advantage of his local knowledge. He’s not a great sprinter, so needs to attack before the very end. Warren Barguil – this is his first race of 2017, so we’ll have to see what condition he’s in. Barguil does have a fast finish, he’ll be quite happy testing himself in a sprint. Fabio Felline – fresh from a great win in Laigueglia, the Italian has a strong chance in this race. He clearly has a fast sprint, but his climbing ability seems to improve every year. If the climb is taken at a steady pace, he has every chance of holding on and is the only man capable of beating Valverde in a sprint.
