Hi

I'm pretty new to mountain biking and just wanted to find out which is a better spec bike between the Merida Big Nine XT Edition 2017 and Specialized Jett Pro. I'm leaning towards the Specialized as its designed specifically towards women but I know that women can ride men's bikes too (small version).

Here are the links to the specs:

Any help would be most welcome!

Thanks

Scott and Giant make some really nice Woman specific bikes. My wife rides and so does many of our friends other halves and "most" of the girls prefer the 27.5" wheels. Maybe something to consider as well.

Thanks Wright - there are so many variables to consider for a new rider. In part its exciting but daunting at the same time.

Had a look at the Scott scale contessa 910 which is a women specific bike, it seems that in general men's bikes at same price point have better components etc which is why I may consider getting a men's bike.

Yes. I noticed the same. So my wife ended up with a "men's" frame. And she's very happy with it. I did change the saddle and we put a shorter stem on. The shop did that for us as part of the deal. Also, she chose a "trail" bike model and not a "xc racing" model so I think that helped the most with a more relaxed geometry on the bike.

Very daunting indeed, but a good bike shop with experienced riders will give you the right advise. Many of them also have demo bikes you can ride, some even let you ride one for the weekend. Well worth it.
