Erik Kleinhans riding for Team Topek-Ergon, won the inaugural Amarider 100Miler in 2009 under extreme conditions, which forced more than 75% of entrants to abandon the race, 50% before the start. In 2016 he returned to take the title again, and this year he is back as firm favourite for his third Amarider 100 Miler. Adriaan Louw finished the 2016 race three minutes behind Kleinhans and is also back to try and topple the favourite.
