Smuts House – Irene (Family)

Ride Groups: Green, Yellow, Red & Blue

Ratings: Technical 4/10 Hills: 4/10 Distance: 23km (Green), 27km (Yellow), 33km (Red) and 42km (Blue).

Starting From: Smuts House - Irene

Date: 12 November 2017

Starting Time: 06h30 for 07h00

Ride Description: Starting from Smuts House the ride is an easy jaunt around the Smuts House area - Being a family ride, emphasis is on shorter distances that will (hopefully) encourage stronger riders to take the leap into the next level. Stronger groups (Yellow+) will ride North along the railway line; riding uphill for a stretch at the N1 highway, then east past Cornwall Hill followed by a climb next to the R21. The Green group starts out immediately South East climbing up to the R21 to meet the other groups. All groups then do some nice single track down to the Red Barn race route; climbing up to the South end of the circuit and back North through a Red Barn section with a series of whoop-de-**** in and out of a dry river bed with nice berms on the opposite side. We then wander back to Smuts House on all sorts of single and jeep track.

Visitors welcome at R30 a family. Bring money for brunch at Smuts House afterwards.

Directions: Take the N1 North to PTA/Polokwane. In Centurion take the M18 / Botha Ave off-ramp and head right onto Botha Ave for 2.2 km. Turn left into Nellmapius Drive (M31), go under the railway line and take the first road to the right into Jan Smuts Ave. Follow the tree-lined Jan Smuts Ave (becomes 23rd Street after 1.8km) directly to the Smuts House Museum.
