Gravelbikes on MTB events

It seems that cycling is following the automotive industry trends. When cars started, they had to be go anywhere jobs because nice paved roads did not exist; ditto for the first bikes. Then cars became more smooth road orientated and so did bikes. Jeep messed everything up by making 4x4 a fact of life but at this time bikes stayed pretty much on the road apart from a small purist cyclocross racing sect. Then 4x4 became super popular and MTB got introduced as our own 4x4 option. And now, the car market is flooded with 4x4 wannabee Cross-over" models - cars that can do a bit of most things but nothing very well. So too cycling - we took cyclocross and turned it into a cross-over option; not quite a road bike but not an mtb either. Its a confused sport type but for a Fossil such as me who came out of the hazy, smoking sixties, being a little out of focus is a way of life so I have become a G-biker.

Event organisers are very aware of the growth in this (new to SA) cross-over discipline.Several event organisers have said that they would allow G-bikes to participate. The big ones I have received positive replies from are the Lormar Challenge and the Amarider 100. The Berg100 folk say they are seriously looking at it although Doctor No (aka CSA) gets all panicky about mixing mtb straight bars with drop bars on their sanctioned events. I have also asked Dryland if they would allow G-bikes on their new 4 day Pioneer Trek Adventure.

If any other Hubbers know of G-bike friendly events, please post these. Better do it in the Events page or Mr. Hub will wave his magic mouse.......
