Riding in Sri Lanka

Track

Recommended Posts

Hi All

This may be a long shot, but here goes anyway!

We depart for Sri Lanka tomorrow (I have been transferred) and I want to know if anyone has ridden on the Island before (or currently rides). I am taking my MTB with me and would love to know where to ride, or better still who to ride with?

Anyone??

Hi

I recently returned from a holiday in Sri Lanka and while I did not go to specifically MTB, we were given basic MTB's to explore the surrounding areas by our hotel.

I think once you leave the Colombo area it should be relatively easy to find places to ride just about anywhere as bicycles are still used as a mode of transportation in the more rural parts of the country so there are plenty of gravel roads and small villages to explore.

We did a few short rides in the Passikudah region on the east coast and around Minhintale in North Central Province and we loved it. The people we encountered were always very friendly and welcoming no matter where we went. Our safety was never a concern for us.

I'd recommend you download the offline google map of the region you plan to ride in. That way you can always find your location on your phone even without an internet connection. This is how we explored the more rural areas. Asking for directions can be a challenge as few people speak English in the more rural parts of the country.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much. I have spend the last six weeks there so I agree, once out of Colombo there appears to be many possible options.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.
