This lense is manufactured by cree for the xre leds and it's very good price for them aswell, i ordered some of them and then one other funny lense just for fun.

When did you order your stuff, it takes a while for parcels to get through customs!!! ask me I know!!

When you get your LEDs we can maybe compare them and see if they're the same brightness and forwards voltage... will be interresting!

I just ordered a normal lux drive buckpuck with external dimming to get my light going. Will probably run of NiMH for a start.

I'm also going to make a very basic ally housing tom to build the light in. so when i get my stuff I'll be done in hopefully no time!!! Smile

looked at the site' date=' doesn't look bad, the only thing that I don't like is the lack of tech specs. How do you know what bin Q5 you get and stuff like that, very incomplete but cheaper yes, not cheapest... hehe

[/quote']

Might not be the cheapest, but that price is not bad and at least all technical details for the Cree LEDs are there. Q5 is the bin and the colour tint is specified as WC. If that is indeed what they supply will be difficult to check; I will have to wait and see what I get.

Kaidomain also sell on candle power forum and answer queries there, so I was happy to order LEDs from them.

Problem with those is that the beam angle is only 8 degree which is a bit narrow for a bike light.

A medium beam (20 to 30 deg) 3-in-one lens will be nice. Construction is much easier with a 3-in-one lens.

Single lenses do have the advantage that you could mix medium and spot and say have 2 mediums and one spot.

I looked at the site again and they don't look to bad. I ordered the Q5 WG tint. maybe we could compare them and see if there's a diff. How long have you been waiting for your stuff? Will be enteresting what there delivery time is on the free postage.

Have to find a way to get my package, I work during the week and they're closed on saturdays!!!

About the lenses, because it's a lense and not a reflector i'm hoping to get some light spill wich will give me enough ligh at my front wheel. Wil have to see how it works, otherwise i'll have to make a different plan.

Did you order a driver from them or just the LEDs?
Posted

Most of the drivers on the Kaidomain site are more suited to single LED flash lights.

I did order 2 of the Kennan drivers, which have received good reviews on the forums. They are still shown as "in stock" on the site, but they were not shipped with my order. Only after I ordered, I saw comments on the Candlepower forums that many people have been waiting for months for these drivers. This is the risk you take when placing orders on sites like this...

My order was placed on 2008-06-18 and was indicated as "shipped" the next day, excluding the drivers. I think it will be minimum 2 to 3 weeks before it arrives. So it is early days...

This is not a commercial exercise so I don't mind waiting to get my toys. It is hobby rather than building a cheap light.

If you just want to get a cheap bright bike light to ride with, order from Brighter Lights; extremely good value if you consider what you get.

I am still looking for a nice handlebar / stem mount to use with my next light. Any suggestions?

Picked up my driver and Q5s from the post office yesterday and the stuff is amazing!!

Mountain Lion PM me if youwant to look at the stuff, want to go for a test run in jonkers tomm.

Don't have the housing finished yet so i'll just mount them on a ally plate. Will only have enough batt holders for 2 in series. but even just one is flippen bright!!!

forward V is about 3.35 at 1000 mA.

night tider, will be very interesting to see.

Not exactly sure of my plans for tomorrow yet, but will PM to arrange.

I have some 6 & 8 AA battery holders if you want to borrow for a test.

I have just finished a 2x Luxeon LED helmet light to compliment the bar light.

Will upload some photos to the DIY thread later.

I ordered 5 Cree Q5 WC stars from kaidomain.  http://kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=4760
I took the free shipping option. Will have to see how long it takes. Website say it has been shipped. Hope I recieve it OK; still has to go through the SA customs and postal service etc...

I did not order lenses from them since they only have the Quad lens that is specified to be Cree compatible.

An SA supplier sounds good.
Let me know when you have your stuff from Cutter. Would like to see.

How long did it take for the order to be delivered and what costs did you pay extra. Can you pay by c/card. Do they deliver to your local post office.

Thank You

It took 2 weeks to arrive by registered post from Hong Kong to my post office.

Came as a normal parcel (marked as gift!?) so I did not pay anything at the post office; no VAT or duty. Big%20smile

I have another order on the way from them.

I do most of my online payments via Paypal rather than doing a direct transaction with the supplier.

Difficult to know who you can trust with your credit card details these days. Ermm

One last question, are there any extra charges using Paypal and do they work on the current exchange rate with the dollar.Ok, that was 2 questions. Thanks

Paypal use their own exchange rate. I do not know how they calculate it, but it is normally fairly close to the current exchange rate.

For a payment I made on 2008-07-08 they used 1 ZAR = 0.125304 USD, or if you want it the other way round 1 USD = 7.98059 ZAR.

Paypal transactions are normal ZAR transactions. There are no additional charges to your credit card.
