So officiado's

How would your training differ if you were just trying to finish - also coming off biking (mtb), but can run and swim. At the moment focussed on londer rides (one day Sani, Baviaans etc)

Heard some talk that you need to train 18 hrs a week for riding and running, PLUS long swims... whew

Flea,

18hours!  Nonsense.  Min per week, 10-11 hours (2h swim, 6-7h bike and 2h run) is possible.

It really isn't that a big deal especially if you already swimming.  It is actually easier than pool (salt water and the fear of things below)!  Swim sessions between 2km-4km total and only 2-3 times a week.  Don't need more than 1000m continuous swimming.

Make sure you can bike 180km, alone, no one to talk to, no one to pace, absolutely on your own.  Do a 200km (for mental).  Learn to pace.

On running, lots of don'ts.  Don't go big.  Don't train at 4:30min/km.  Don't brick.  6min/km is a 4:12 run.  Learn to eat on the run.  Baked potatoes are fantastic (you'll be loving something salty after 20 powergels).
