cool, so this more or less a done deal. It will just be the issue of getting the maps in SA, as i am getting the unit from UK.

I hav e sent garmap a mail to find out what maps i need for the unit once in SA.

AfricaTopo is my hobby project and is compatible with all Garmin mapping type GPS units.

Madmappers does the sales. Email them and they will advise how to order.

If you want the Garmap maps, it might be better to buy the 705 locally.

Mapping type GPS units sold locally in SA are usually bundled with a map product. Just check which maps are included.

The Edge bought in South Africa currently comes bundled with:

Garmap Africa Series 2008 (March Edition)

 

As mountain lion suggested, it may work out better to buy the 705 locally after you add the cost of the bundled maps.
