Gauteng Youth League

A 3- race Gauteng youth league is going to be run in the period leading up to Inter Provincials and Gauteng champs in November and SA Nationals in December.

The youth league is aimed at introducing youths to the sport of track cycling and preparing our youths for the main races later in the year.

Specialist coaching sessions will also be offered on the mornings before the races to prepare the youths and teach them the finer art of track racing and training. Coaches are all level 2 qualified and experienced track and road cyclists.

The coaching sessions will be free of charge and covered in the R50 youth league entry fee payable at racing later in the day.

Kids will race in the following age group cats: U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19

If you are unsure what age group your kids falls under. If they turn 11 this year they are under 13, if they turn 13 this year they are under 15 etc.

Race dates:

Saturday 01 September

Saturday 29 September

Saturday 27 October

Youths who want to partake in the league races must complete a track competency course, this is not part of the Youth league coaching sessions and must be done before you can join a coaching session.

Track competency courses are offered at Hector Norris Park as well as Pilditch Track in Pretoria

Track competency courses will be arranged on at least two Saturday mornings leading up to the youth league. Dates to be finalized shortly.

HNP Youth and Kids  Program for Sat 28 July. There will be 4 coaches (Jeremy, Bennie, Lisa, Alex) at the track from 11am to 1pm to assist with some basic to intermediate skills. If you have not been on the track for a while this may be an opportunity to just get a feel for the track again before racing starts in the afternoon. Please bring a track bike or see if there is one available for you. With 4 coaches we should be able to split track and road bikes for the track intro. All depends on the number of kids that arrive. Jeremy Martins will make the call on the day. Please be on time and call Jeremy for further info and arrangements -072 059 9490.

HNP League and Kids races Sat 28 July. Start 14:00. (Registration 13:00-13:45)League racing will be adjusted a bit to incorporate a couple of kids races in the afternoon program. Normal League racing (A & B Batch) will be watered down a bit with only a 6 lap scratch, 4-up match sprint and a longer scratch or points race if time allows. Jeremy will make the call if a new rider is allowed to ride in the normal racing batches depending on his skills and progress in the Saturday morning sessions. For the kids and new youths there will be separate racing depending on the type of bike you have. MTB, BMX and Road bikes will be grouped separately from track bikes. For the kids we have 3-4 races planned depending on numbers and if time allows. these races will be relatively short and will vary from 1, 3, 6 and possibly a 10 lap scratch race for those that feel they have the legs. Lets see how many kids we can get on the track tomorrow. Remember that the official youth league starts on the first Saturday of September.

Please remember to bring drinks, Lunch etc. There is no shop at HNP.
