Event Name: Parys Impact MTB Series #3
When: 16/07/2023
Where: Venterskroon, North West
Category: Parys Impact MTB Series #3

Imagine an asteroid the size of Table Mountain, heading for Earth at an estimated speed of 20 km per second. This is what happened in the Free State 2 Billion years ago. On impact, it created a crater around 160–300 km across. The meteorite impact is the oldest and largest known meteorite impact structure on earth which is still visible today.

Known as the Vredefort Dome, it is declared a world heritage site and the perfect setting for mountain bike racing. The route follows the banks of the third largest river in South Africa, the Vaal River. The non-technical gravel route is in perfect condition thanks to the local farmers.

Riders can expect a wide range of scenery and challenges in our new 4 part series, Impact.

The race is gravel bike friendly.

Hi, any hubbers been to these events before? The Facebook event looks very quiet.

Did the previous one. That climb from Venterskroon over Suikerbosrand is tough on cold and stiff legs.

Nice waterpoints, friendly people.

The finish was a bit of a let down: no one to retrieve your number board or record your time, none of the promised snacks at the finish.

Also afterwards heard from the locals that there was no communication about the event and possible traffic congestion.

Nice to have local races though. Also a nice event in Parys: Beerhouse Beat the Brewer.

Great, thank you for the feedback! Which distance did you complete?

Beer house Beat the Brewer sounds like a lot of fun!

I did the 40km, there is a 60km option as well. More than enough climbs, beautiful scenery.

One of the water points had beer, and at the finish we received a beer and a burger.

All kinds of nice lucky draw prizes and a fantastic vibe.

Was a great day out, my first ever event and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely do again, hope to try for the 80km next time
