Well i would suggest to just squirt some lube into the housing once a week if you are near the coast but seeing as you are in Gauteng clean them regularly after rides and in dry conditions some lube every 2nd week should be fine' date=' more often in muddy conditions as we have in winter down here in CPT [/quote']

Ooops. Definitely not giving my cables the TLC I should.Confused When you say lube, I presume you mean draw them out of the housings, clean, lube, insert and reset derailleurs? No short cut here?

Now you see guys to me its not just bout making money but to give each and every cyclist the opportunity to afford top quility so there is certain of my products i dont push and cables are one of them Wink I know what ist like to drool over all the bike bling on the market believe you meWink

you can shift the gears into the lowest gear, then just shift the gears all the way to the high gear but don't pedal and you can pull the cables out the cable stops to slide them up and down whilst lubing and wiping. 2min job very easy and effective.

Dirtbreath not always necessary to go to that extreme. a simple squirt of an aerosol lube like Q20 or WD40 is sufficient and maybe go to the extreme with removing cables from housings once every 2months or after extreme muddy ridesWink

Okay so the final say is,

DB - Stick to your XTR and lube them as often as possible.

If you have money buy I-link if not...... well carry on lubing those XTRs.LOL

BTW the way thats what I am running at the moment standard Shimano housing with XTR teflon cables. Never have shifting complaints.

Good advice. Bike gets washed every weekend, chain after every ride but shifting not precise. Running low normal which is very sensitive to sticky cables. Going to give my baby some LUUURV and will report back soon.

Thanks for all the advice.

OK' date=' so what is being said here is that apart from aesthetics, given the same setup (sealed ferrules, housing length) all these systems should last the same time and require the same maintenance.

How often should you need to lube your cables?

Dylan, a year for Alligators? What maintenance in that time?

Dirtbreath, no maintenance or adjustment was needed, that is why I am so happy with it.

The kit comes with black galvanized P.T.F.E coated cable, and other extras which neaten the job. In short, I see it as an aesthetically superior and higher quality alternative to conventional cables and housing. It will not set you back as much as the Ilink equivalent, and "blings" up you bike.

Perhaps I am speaking for myself, being a scholar and being able to independently "bling" my bike without spending all my savings, but my suggestion is a compromise between the high and low end products.

Hope this helps you. I will post some pictures later.

You can't go wrong with XTR, perhaps a new cable or two at R15 a shot will do the trick. Big%20smile

We are now all nice 'n clean. Let's see how these lubed puppies run. Just to clarify, they are not bad just could be a bit crisper. Certainly not as sharp as when they were first installed, about 3 months ago.

Dirtbreath - She looks much happier now.

Dylan - Why is there a Shakespearian play under your bicycling mags?

I assumed there would be a comment about that! LOL

Symbolic of my priorities? Yes, now and then I use that book to help me pass English, but clearly the cycling books and magazines are utilized more. Tongue
