I post this to indicate that for us non electronic types, there is hope in the DIY department.

 

Instead of a 20W halogen, you can use a 3W LED downlight for the long beam(123 electronics can help here) and a 1.5W LED (Multiple LED) downlight for broad beam.

 

I use 7 cm of 10mm plumbers pipe for the casing and a end cap (for the end) and a joining coupling to secure the light onto the pipe.  Glue together witrh pipe weld.  A 1Amp 12V battery fits into a water bottle.
