I am not getting into a debate and I am no saint but this is my feeling on the embarrassing matter......

With all the ranting about PPA this and PPA that and the fact we are all appalled with the hit and run incident and were all very vocal about it, it would be good to see how many of you actually made any effort to attend this mornings organized protest?  A handful and I hope it included the vocal ones LOL

That said it was a good positive affair, a small cohort with traffic cop support.  We were met by the necessary dignitaries at the civic centre and handed over a formal list of grievances (PPA largely ignored the drink driving issue in the letter which is the heart of the problem and another issue that also needs attention?).Angry

Council accepted the petition and promised action with a hundred or so cyclists listening attentively.  If you have concerns and are prepared to finger type pot shots, I rather suggest you pedal to show support, because you are needed Embarrassed

This posts sounds punchy but it is meant to be the opposite if you can spot the irony, it?s just a fact that in CT that we don?t really walk the talk as was evident today.

Well done to those that organised, the council and to the PPA ClapClapClap

gilmour, don't feel lonely. As you are aware, I have been collecting funds to have the W309 sign erected on all the popular training routes across South Africa. With the help from a few individuals in my Cycling Club and a few here on the Hub, I have managed to erect over 150 signs in Gauteng. This is nowhere near what I have hoped to achieve. This year the only sponsorship & donations came from Team Edenglen.

It seems we as cyclists are the first to complain but the minute the cycling organisations need our valued input & support, we find ourselves too busy to bother.

This is rather a sad state of affairs and I pray that next year cyclists will become more involved with regards to their safety.

Is an American president once said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what YOU can do for your country". and so I say, 'Ask not what Sign-Up can do for you, but what YOU can do to assist Sign-Up"!!

and another one "Road Safety begins with You!!

DT, I have made contact with the NMMM and the Eastern Cape Provincial Roads departments and they have indicated that they will help with route surveying & erection of these signs.

What is needed is a detailed map of the EP Herald Tour (as a start). This map should indicate road names etc. and should be detailed with route names/numbers and possibly distance markers. Once you have this map, I will give you the contact person to deliver it to to have it surveyed.

Secondly, a sign in Gauteng costs about R600 each. I am sure that once the number of signs are established, the signs could be purchased via the NMMM and or EC Provincyial Roads Department.

The most important is fund raising. Brandon Els has indicated that he could help with these efforts (and I am sure he will donate as well), so check with him. Suggestion: with the upcoming PE Hub Ride hold a braai and sell Wors Rolls, beers & cool drinks. Ask the various clubs to hold their own fundraisers and the funds can be pooled.

The Marine Drive route will definitely benefit all the PE cyclists as it is the most popular. Go to all the bike shops and ask them to donate and offer safety equipment for sale with a % going to this fund.

lastly, Good Luck!! I have had many people become despondent as asking for money is never easy!!
