Upgrading 8spd to 9spd & Need Your Help

Couldnt find the info i was looking for on the net & some people get too carried away in their posts & try to get a little too technical for their own good on other overseas forums so please give me valuable answers & hopefully someone else has done this upgrade too.

 

1. I have 9spd XT shifters

2. I have XT F & R derailers

3. Need to get 9 spd casette & chain

 

Ive read so far that if i want to upgrade 8spd to 9spd that i will need to change the chain aswell to 9spd because its a little thinner than the usual 8spd chain.

 

My question is, besides a new casette & chain is there anything else i need to know

 

I know that the casette will fit in my frame & freewheel as its the same size as the 8spd just the spacers are a teency bit narrower, hence needing the narrower chain

 

Let me know if im on the right track here please
