Does this stress the wheel - esp if you bump the bike?

The answer is no.

Why not?

A wheel has 1000N plus of force in each spoke, pulling the rim towards the hub. That is a compressive rim force of 3.2 metric tons for a 32-spoke wheel. 20kg of bike weight hanging on it is a flyspec in comprison.

Hang 'em, I say.

You all are evil and will be punished for leaving your bikes in the garage. My bike sleeps in a Cloud9 King Size bed with silk sheets.... <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

On a serious note, I use the same bike stands that the LBS use in my study for all our bikes. Bike is supported in the normal position by the chain stay (think that's what you call it)
