Suggestions for a beginner

Hi, I'm starting cycling but i'm wondering what would be the best bike for me! My budget isn't very big at about 3k but i'm a beginner so I don't need a fancy expensive bike!

 

I've been offered a Avalanche Stratus for 1k but i'm wondering if i should get the bike or not? Plus, i'll most likely upgrade my bike sometime next year, quite late in the year, i just want a cheap bike to experiment with.

 

What do you suggest????

As a newcomer I can say that no matter what you start off with you will be throwing all your cash into cycling. Don't forget you still need to budget for gear: helmet (only buy new); pump; spares; shoes; etc

 

Don't know the bike you mentioned but if you don't have R6K then rather buy cheap because its easier to flog it when you upgrade.

 

BTW: I too had an original budget of R3K (MTB & Gear). Ended up spending R4,5K just on my entry level MTB after I found a wonderful LBS (Local Bike Store) that convinced me (thank goodness) to buy something decent.

 

I also bought a Bell Helmet (R650) vs cheap crap from Game (R200). Oh and LBSs can be surprisingly cheaper than Game / Sportsmans on parts like tubes, tyres lever, pumps. etc
