Hi all.

Does anyone have any experience / comments / reviews on the Merida One-Twenty HFS 1000-D? I'm in the market and, although the bike looks excellent, I can't seem to find any reviews on this bike to help with making up my mind.

I plan on spending around R25k and would like a bike that is suited for all mountain / marathon riding.

I also had a look at the GT and Mongoose (in the same price range), but favour the Merida.

Any comments / suggestions?

Greetings,

I can report that the one twenty 1000d is an incredible bike! Took ownership of one on Friday last week and hit the trails this weekend. The bike performed flawlessly and would highly recommend it. I also checked out the GT's and have to say they are also great bikes but rand for rand comparison the Merida is much better value (XT right through) and as I say the ride is really great.

I would say go for it!!

Thanks! I hope you don't mind, but I've got a few technical questions for you. Please answer where you can (I understand you JUST got the bike):<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

1) Can you comment on how you experience climbing and descends?

2) Does the bike tend to favour more the front or the back (in terms of felt geometry)? I guess the actual question relates to the bike's centre of gravity.

3) Do you find the bike fairly manoeuvrable (flickable) in technical sections? How do you feel in the "cockpit"?

4) If you push the bike REALLY hard, does the rear end flex? Or is it fairly stiff?

5) In terms of the rear linkage: Does it appear to be of good quality (i.e. it won't come apart after a couple of months)?

6) Where did you buy your bike, what did you pay?

I currently cycle with a Merida Matts hardtail (for the sake of interest) and find that the front end sometimes feels a bit "heavy"; although, one can probably attribute this to the weight of the fork (Rockshox Reba 318).

I own the older version, the am5000 and basicly same bike. That bike has an awsume climbing capability and handles smooth on trail and technical places. I owned a mission3000 before which is more a XC bike and i am climbing steep hills much faster on the AM.The rear end stays fairly stiff when pushing it.. Rear linkage = rocksolid, this bike has been through tough places, Swazi Frontier, Sabie Experience Hill2Hill, and it still appears as a new bike. Go for it, THE BEST BUY DEF!!! The 120 1000 goes at my lbs for R20300 in Newcasle KZN.
