I know that there is no weight limit on the 96 5000d and i know that one has been ridden by somebody for about a year now at about 100kg's, the bike handles and climbs brilliantly

That is not strictly true, the warranty on the carbon frame is only valid up to 120kg. If you're heavier than that the warranty is void. (This is as per Hot Spot Cycles in Atterbury)

if you heavier then 120kg, and you riding a mountain bike even your medical aid is void!!!! Only joking, but it must be a tough sport for someone over 120 kg.... i'm 75kg and it hurts like hell!!
