I've found my new passion, adventure racing! It was the first time I've ever done an adventure race and wasn't quite sure of what to expect. We arrived at the briefing on Friday night with the team mates and were handed maps and a list of 20 GPS coordinates that we had to plot out on the maps. Each co-ord came with a small clue.

We met up the next morning @4:30 and the race began at 5:00 sharp. The first leg was a 5km jog with 2 check points and back to the start. 2nd leg 35km MTB with 8 various CP's. A normal 35km mtb ride would take us about 2 hours, but this time we were out for 5 hours, argueing about the shortest route which wasn't always the shortest. In fact most times we ended up pushing our bikes up steep fire breaks, through the grass, over rivers and around rocks.

3rd leg was a 25km run (walk / crawl). It was the toughest, most gruelling thing that I have ever done in my life, Sani & Sabie Experience are a piece of cake in comparison. It was like an emotional roller coaster, from laughing to tears every half an hour. The most fun was the adventure of having to search for each check point and hoping that you had plotted it correctly on the map or you were buggered.

In total it was only 58km, but 1890m ascent!!!!!

Definately one to mark on your calendar for next year.

Big thanks to Werner and the gang from Passionate Adventures for an awesome event - I'm hooked.
