L'equipe reports the 2008 tour will revert to a mixed system. National Teams, sport groupings etc.

 

A new start, a return to more innocent days, a cleaning out of the current team system, etc etc.

Without big money behind the sponsorships - it should totally wipe out presence from many nations including SA.

We can't afford and don't send our athlethes abroad to participate in many events - what will happen with our Team Pro's ?

 

I suppose a lot of young talented athletes would probably emigrate to the US / Europe / Australia and wouldnt need to represent SA.

When has the Tour EVER been innocent? They've had contenders mugged & stabbed along with many other forms of sabotage. Drugs & alcohol have plagued the Tour almost from day 1. They've tried this "national team" thing before and it never worked. I guess that the real underlying factor for any motiveation to change the structure is so that a French team has a reasonable chance of winning. How many years has it been now??
