Good tyres, wheels and suspension will make a bigger difference in performance than the 100grams you save on a carbon frame and will be more cost effective, so rather go for a higher spec Alu bike than a lower spec carbon bike.

I also had to choose between a carbon frame and Alu, got the Morewood Zula in the end, and are so happy.

 

If it was carbon I would have a "gemoedsbek.king" everytime a rock hits the frame.
