Help please: what causes a fork (Fox 100 RLC, 2008) lose all it's air, overnight. Rode yesterday morning it was fine. This morning it flopped right down, zero pressure. It was serviced 4 weeks ago, and hasn't done excessively hard work since then.

Appreciate any ideas.

Piston seal failure.

The air piston has a rubber seal that prevents air from escaping between the piston and inner stanchion. If this fails, the air escapes. It is a cheap component but the repair generally requires a full service.

The piston is lubricated by a couple of mills of thick oil floating on top of the piston. When this oil is depleted (it is a consumable in the system), the seal runs dry and eats itself.

As a quick fix you could open the air cap, pour 5ml of motor oil on top of the piston and inflate it. It should hold air for a while but the long-term answer is a new seal.

Thanks everyone. This was my first attempt at DIY fork service. Followed procedure off the Internet, seemed straight forward enough. Must have cocked something up...will repeat tonight...never give up!
