Hi guys and girls...

I'm fairly new to mountainbiking but i enjoy it very much. I've done a few races but I've still got a long to go. I have however experienced the unpleasant art of falling my backside off. After my last one I'm quite negative about this. I know its part of the game but I'm becoming reluctant to give it my best on the route because of the fear of injury. I'm now looking into the possibilty of getting knee and elbow guards. I'm sure lots of people will think I'm being a softy but after my injuries I don't really care anymore. Its either getting better protection or giving up the sport and I don't want to do that!

I've done some searching and I see there are quite a lot of accesories available for knee and elbow protection specifically designed for MTB. Any tips/advice would be appreciated and if you could please inform me where to get the relevant gear in SA would be very welcome!!!

Thanks... ;)

Nope, no softie at all! My last fall had me on my back for two weeks, and, doing some contract work, no work, no pay - so I am all for it!

I would look at the soft padding over the hard plastic ones, I have both and use the hard shell only when we go jumping or doing big drops.

I use the Kyle Strait knee pads for the rest, and they work great.

Guess it depends what kind of riding you do....

I bought a few sets until I found one that I liked (had to get from CRC as I could not find nice ones myself), so if you want, I can send you some pics and feedback on them if you want to take some of them off my hand.
