  1. Thanks very much, I appreciate it!
  2. Thanks for the replies thus far, I appreciate it. I might hit the trails either at Jonkershoek or Boschendal this weekend just to get back in to it...
  3. Hi all, I haven't been riding for a while but its time to get back on the bike again. The bike has been in storage for a while and needs a service including the suspension. What is a reasonable price to have the service done on both the fork (Fox Evolution F140 RL) and the shock (Custom Fox Triad II with AUTOSAG)? I'm not at the point where I can do this type of maintenance myself so it has to go to the shop.
  4. Hi everyone, I haven't ridden in Jonkershoek since 2014, from what I read here it still seems safe and decent to ride? Is the access control still the same as it used to be? I had a look at the Banhoek Conservancy also, looks very nice and from what I gather also safe to ride? Also, any recommendations on some of the wine farms to ride? As mentioned I haven't ridden in this area since 2014 so keen to find out whats up these days... Cheers in advance!
  5. Hi all Any recommendations on where to service a MTB in the JHB area (the obvious service shop qualities looked for)? I used to have my preferred one in Somerset West but have no idea which ones to try in JHB. So I'd basically like to have my Specialized Stumpjumper FSR serviced and then packed (yep I don't have a bike travel bag), so that I can take it with me to Asia seeing that I'm living there these days. The Fourways area is preferred but I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks...
  6. Hi everyone, I'm also looking to ride in Hong Kong, just still need to get my bike over but would also like to rent in the meantime. Maybe we can all get in contact and arrange something sometime...
  7. I tracked 2 599m of ascent on Strava and when I uploaded the file to Garmin Connect it indicated 2 369m of ascent and that was with elevation correction. I did get 97.0 kilometers though which seems pretty much on the numbers...
  8. I saw a bike with a very similarly damaged wheel at a farm gate a distance after the downhill that follows Die Wapad. I saw the rider on the paramedic's quad bike and his arm was in a sling. Is this the same incident? Either way I hope the rider is okay, wheels can be replaced...
  9. Hi Gunu, thanks for your reply. I agree, when I ride alone I also try to stay on the main routes and also advise someone of my planned riding time and route etc...
  10. Hi GH, thanks for the reply. I agree with all you say but as you sometimes no-one else you know is available to join to ride. I see you're from Stellenbosch, do you know of any riding clubs to join? I see the University has a club but I'm not sure if its open to anyone...
  11. Hi everyone, I know how to read a map but I'm not 100% sure where this Kom se Pad/Knysna turn off is? Anybody have a fix of this position? Even a kilometer will help me... Thanks...
  12. Hi everyone, how is the riding going? Would just like to find out how it is to ride in Jokershoek during the week? I have done plenty riding there over weekends, sometimes even solo but not sure about the week when there would probably be much less riders/hikers/trail runners etc...
  13. Hi Merida IMHO I don't really tend to look at weather forecasts that far in advance. Its basically computer models trying to predict what certain airmasses would do for the forecasted time so changes are likely to occur. I'm in the aviation industry so we use met reports quite often and really only tend to look at forecast 3-4 days in advance and even then changes might happen. I guess what I'm trying to say is, we'll have to wait and see... As noted before I'm also in the K2C "survival" group. Doing my best to get time in the saddle but we all know how work and other commitments tend to interfere. I'm trying to focus more on the climbing than the distance in my training but I guess that day its a combination of the two...
  14. I think that is very good and important advice although it is a bit difficult when there are many riders around. Will try my best though also! Thanks for sharing that stella, some motivation for us first timers! How did you find the K2C, must of been quite a big jump from starting 2 months before and a max ride of 33km? How was your fitness levels before starting mtb'ing?
  15. I would very much like to do a MTB Orienteering event at some stage. I really love maps, navigation and riding my bike and the those things combined can only be a winner! I'm down in Cape Town now, so please advise if you guys/girls will be having any events down here. Would really like to join in the fun! While I was up north, things didn't work out that I could ever actually take part in one. Please keep us updated and thanks!
  16. Answers to that might cause a mass cancellation of riders! I'm in the survival category...
  17. Nice work KeaganB, thanks for that!
  18. I must say that on Friday evening I was very close to deciding not to go but in the end pushed through. Very happy that we did! Even though wake up was at 4 am and had to drive 150km to get there. Was great fun, really enjoyed it and great job by the organizers, was well run. The bike wash at the end was also appreciated. If possible and all goes well I wouldn;t mind riding it again. I'm also having issues with both the PPA and Racetec websites on both my laptop and phone. Was able to access the Racetec website to about 19:30 last night. Not able to anymore...
  19. Good chat! Seriously though as a first timer how hard would you lads and lasses rate the K2C? I don't get a lot of time to get out on the MTB and ride (well not as much as I want too) but I put in good sessions on the spinning bike in the gym. So while I'm at it, how does the K2C compare to like the Argus? I know they very different but regarding the overall difficulty? Also how technical is the route, or is it mostly gravel road? Might not be the sharpest questions but let's not get the flamethrower out, I'm planning to ask many more...
  20. Last week I saw on the FB page that entries was already at 3600 out of 4000... Decided I'd get my entry in before it is full. So I'm planning to be asking many questions here!

    Trucape MTB 50km

Went out yesterday for the 25KM and I'm glad to see that others are mentioning the initial climb just after the start. I probably started out incorrectly because after that climb I wasn't up to scratch. Really enjoyed the ride though, very scenic and also enjoyed the single track. Out of interest, does anybody know what distance that climb was? Very nice ride all in all except that someone had broken into one of the riders car's during the race. That's very unfortunate and unnecessary and sort of put a damper on it for me. I've only moved to the Western Cape recently so I'm not sure how often that happens in these parts...
  22. Hi Meezo Thanks for that, I'm missed the other topic...
  23. Hi everyone Did a search on the Wellington Gravel Travel and didn't find any topic on it. I noted it is being held on 10 May 2014 at the Bosman Family Vineyards. More info here: http://www.roag.co.za/enter-an-event/mtb/gravel-travel-mtb.aspx Reason for posting is just to find out how the route is. Planning to enter but would just like to find out a bit more about how the routes are and the race in general. Thanks!
