I realize this is not 100% relevant as it is in UK but I will post it anyway

A friend of mine is coming out to SA in a few weeks and I was thinking of getting him to bring a bike for me so I checked out the UK Gumtree

 

I found this ad which is obviously a scam but played along to see where it would go

 

I clicked the reply button and asked if the bike was still available

 

A good few days later I received a reply (I am guessing the scammer only goes to the internet cafe every few days)

 

Here is the reply

 

Hi,

I received an e-mail from you regarding my bike. Are you still interested?

I put the bike on sale last week, but do not know what happened with gumtree and it appeared late on the site. I moved with my son in Italy because he went to study here and he have a locomotory problem and i can not leave him alone. I didn't tried to sell the bike here yet, because is very difficult with my language.

If you're a serious buyer, I am willing to send the bike to you, so that you can check it, but only if you agree to use an escrow company. In this way we are both protected and we have some guarantees. We pay for shipping from 50-50. It is about 10-12 pounds per person.

The bike is in excellent condition, has not been used very much, because after I bought it my son had health problems and I could not use it anymore. No scratches or other problems. I will try to find the receipt from it, but in this house is a total mess with all this lagguage.

I tried to buy a phone number for Italy, but is a very weak signal area so I prefer to use the internet for communication until i solves the problem. You can try to call me on number: 003956821579 but I do not know if it works.

Please respond if you're interested, because I really need the money in this moments.
