This is a difficult 40km, last years race report

HagMorKei Race Report and Results

This year's HagMorKei ride took place on Sunday 2 August. The riders started in a light drizzle at Haga Haga and both the 20 and 40km riders cycled across the beach and into Cockin's farm. They split in the farm and the 40km riders went through a game farm and the 20km riders along a gravel road to Morgan Bay. After the game farm the 40km riders followed the 20km riders to Morgan Bay and then they rode a single track detour to the airstrip and came to the finish along the old Kei Mouth/Morgan Bay road. It's a deceptive ride- the 40km one is tough and there were heroes- someone broke a chain and ran most of the way, well done, and to the only lady who braved the long ride- Cheryl Coles. The weather at the finish was glorious- what a beautiful venue. We ran a fun Kiddies ride and future cyclists Sebastian Harris, Ed Godfrey, Jorja Boonzaier, Tyler Boonzaier and Alec Coles competed with gusto. It's festive at the end when we mix with the runners and the walkers and their welcoming committee and there is delicious food and drinks supplied by Morgan Bay Hotel.

Who's keen for a ride to Wavecrest on the 27 Dec, meet at the ferry at 7am, be prepared for a ride into the wind there, but should be at our back on the way back, high tide 7:50, low tide 14:01, so we'll ride inland there and along the beach on the way back, with the obligatory beer at Seagulls on the way back. I Ride Slowly. so be prepared to spend a few hours in the saddle. PM me.
