I am busy upgrading my bike. Like my Specialized XC pro dualie so much decided to respray and get a new Groupset and wheels.

Not sure what to choose. Please help before I lay out hard earned cash. SRAm says you dont need more gears because their drive train gives exactly the same power to effort ratios as 3 x 10 providing that you choose a 12-36 cluster in the back.

Shimano lovers say when the climb is steep and long you will wish you had more gears. Guys whats the facts here. Please help me choose!

Sorry to say, but your poll is doomed for failure. Rather ask what the opions are.

Here's mine. If you have the cash go for sram xx.

I ride a 2x9 setup with only a 11-34 casette. Front I have 29-42. Did the isuzu 3 towers on this setup and I could ride all the hills fairly easy and believe me there were hills.

I really like the idea of not shifting too much in front. Except for hills, I always ride in my 42 chainring.

Regarding your last statement, if a hill is steep and long the amount of gears doesn't matter. Its the ratios and SRAM has that sorted with the bigger casette.
