Sram Shiffting problem

Hi All

I got a new bike and asked the shop to upgrade the group to Force from Rival.

I have done around 800 KM on the bike now and thought that I want to have another chain ready, so I got the Force rated chain 1071(for 2011 as suppose to the 1070)

I noticed that I had a 1050 on but I assume that chain came with the bike and it is still wrking fine on the Force groupset.

So I fit my new 1071, measure the same amount of links so all should be 100% fine.

I clean the old chain and put it in some lubbe so it can rest and absobe some good stuff while I ride the new chain, and then I was going to change the chain every 200km or so, and then lube the other one.

Anyway of I go on a ride and now I can not get into the "big" (50compact) blade, when I am in anyting 15 - 25 t cogs.

HUH? I get home, and look at the chain compared to the old one and the only dif I can see is that the new chain uses hollowpin, and "slightly" small plates...so I fit my "old" chain and the shiffting is fine in the FD.....

Fit the new one again, and it seems that the FD does not go far engough to move the chain onto the big ring.

I have set the FD to be within 1-3mm from the bib blade teeth, and inline wiht the big blade, ie not skew....still not.

If I addjust the limit skrew, then I can push the chain onto the bib blade BUT then I almost always goes OVER and off the ring.......

I put the old chain back and did a very happy 80km on Sunday without a problem.

Any ideas?

Smaarties on offer......

Interesting.

I have just realised that my shifting has also got slightly harder when going into the big ring now.

Also compact 34/50.

I just bought two YBN hollowpins from Planet-X on special to do the whole rotation vibe.

Noticed the other day that it was taking longer to engage the big ring.

Sometimes it is perfect, but sometimes it does just seem to take a while.

mmmm....

I just spoke to a friend with a 50/34 and he said that he can only change once he is in the middle to smaller cogs at the back....interesting

His chain may be on the shorter side then as well.

But also remember the difference between the gearing is really big on the compact, so there is a really big jump that the bike needs to try and do in one go.

But yes, try put the chain back on. It is not a bad practice to try to ride more in the smaller ring, you will need to trim to the right when you are halfway through the cassette else you may get rub on your FD, but lately I have been trying to ride through most of my small ring gears and then only shift up and it seems to work well.

Remember on the 50/34 the jump is so big that as you shift up in the front, as soon as the gear has taken you will generally always drop like two gears at the back otherwise your cadence is going to drop from like 90 to 50 in one go.

As far as I understand you can't trim Sram? But I can be wrong

Thats why I love my sh!tmano dura-ace.

I can trim quite a bit on the front.

On both chainrings I can trim the FD right when I need to.

I think that sram can trim though..... maybe not the entry level, but I remember my bud (Headhunter) with his red saying that he can trim on that.

I don't have Dura-ace, but my 2010 Ultegra shifts better than My friens SRAM force. his bike goes to the LBS for shifting ajustments at least once a week
